TAINY SwitchingCenter Version 3: Standards-compliant M2M communications via open IP networks

Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation has now introduced Version 3 of its TAINY SwitchingCenter software product. This product features standards-compliant infrastructure for IP telemetry, with which it enables wireless or wired communication for M2M applications via the easily available Internet. Thus, M2M applications profit from the enormous advantages of modern Internet technology, including cost efficiency, reliability, flexibility and investment security in the technological infrastructure.

Basis for cost-efficient, innovative solutions

Similar to a traditional switching center for landlines, the TAINY SwitchingCenter provides protocol functionality for TCP/IP-based data communication via GPRS, WLAN and LAN. Thus, the product lays a solid technological foundation for new, innovative M2M applications in a wide variety of the most different industries and areas of application, particularly when wireless communication is the preferred choice.
One example is smart metering, solutions for recording the data on energy consumption in households. In this case, an intelligent system, such as a MUC controller, automatically and with the help of the TAINY SwitchingCenter communicates the information to the energy provider’s control center. In the same way, the control center is also able to access the system installed on the consumer’s premises.

Other examples of product applications include controlling tasks in industry or in building management. In addition, the TAINY SwitchingCenter can also be used to upgrade and optimize many existing M2M applications, where it is often advantageous to replace communication via landlines with modern TCP/IP communication using wireless communication networks; customers benefit immediately by the lower operating costs.

Standards-compliant and scalable architecture

The new version of the TAINY SwitchingCenter supports the current version of the standard IPT protocol (E-DIN 43863-4). This standard ensures interoperability between products made by different manufacturers, to protect investments in the existing infrastructure. This also enables the implementation of so-called “push scenarios”.

Another considerable improvement in the TAINY SwitchingCenter v3 is its completely revamped modular architecture: MySQL serves as the central database, and there are web clients available for all the user roles (e.g. admin, auditor, viewer, …). The software can be distributed over several different computers, which makes it very stable, redundant and highly scalable.

Easy, flexible system integration

In addition to the TAINY SwitchingCenter v3, there are also software components that guarantee easy, flexible system integration. Existing applications that use a serial interface to establish a dial-up connection or use leased lines can be operated with the TAINY SwitchingCenter without requiring any further adaptation.

A programming library is available for the seamless integration into control center systems (SCADA, AMM, …). Among other things, this library provides interfaces for the use of the IPT protocol and the configuration of the entire system to guarantee a complete, seamless integration into the central system environment.
