Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation GmbH
Hamburg, December 2009
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation GmbH, based in Hamburg and Rostock, is an international supplier of innovative M2M communication solutions for professional use. The company offers high-quality solutions for remote meter reading, industrial automation and professional mobile radio (PMR) on the strength of its employees’ many years of professional experience. At both locations, Dr. Neuhaus develops and produces solutions for GPRS, GSM, EDGE, UMTS, PLC and LAN-supported communication as well as analogue data transmission in the fields of telemetry, telematics and M2M communication. Dr. Neuhaus’ diverse range of products is intended for professional use in monitoring, measurement, automation and security technology. The main applications for the solutions are in the fields of energy supply, industry and commerce as well as in fleet and building management. The production of electronic component assemblies as a service rounds out Dr. Neuhaus’ service portfolio.
The company with 30 years of experience
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation GmbH was founded as an engineering firm in Hamburg by Dr. Gottfried Neuhaus in 1979. Initially specialising in manufacturing special computers and software for industrial control, the company quickly developed to become a pioneer in data communication terminals.
In 1988, it introduced Germany’s first analogue modem for private use, while the first PC card worldwide followed in 1992. In 1994, Dr. Neuhaus celebrated the premiere of the first GSM-supported PC card for mobile data transmission. As early as 1993, the company entered into the field of industrial communication with its ZDUE product family for remote meter reading.
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation expanded its product spectrum in 2000 by adding GPRS and VPN solutions.
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation has been a 100% subsidiary of the French corporation Sagemcom since 1994. With a turnover of over € 1.3 b, Sagemcom employs 6,570 people on five continents, as well as at its headquarters near Paris.
Management, distribution, development and administration are all located at the Hamburg office of Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation. Around 50 employees manufacture the products designed in Hamburg and build electronic appliances and component assemblies to order at the production facility in Rostock. The tight network of distribution, development and production enables the efficient implementation of all requirements to the benefit of the customers.
The company currently employees 100 staff members at both locations, of which 40% are engineers. Thomas Bruckbauer has been in charge of managing the company since June 2006.
Technologies and products
Dr. Neuhaus' spectrum of services is divided into the following areas: commissioned production and development and product distribution.
Commission production
In addition to Dr. Neuhaus products, the Rostock facility primarily makes electronic devices and component assemblies to customer order. This includes the mechanical and manual fitting of electronic components to circuit boards, as well as a broad spectrum of additional services. Dr. Neuhaus can act as a full-service provider, covering tasks ranging from technological support in the layout phase to function tests, assembly, packaging and shipping logistics, as needed.
Product distribution
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation's core business consists of the development and production of GSM and/or GPRS-supported communications solutions for wireless and wire-bound data transmission. The company develops innovative hardware and software platforms for mobile and stationary data communication in this field. These universal solutions are used professionally in areas such as smart metering, remote meter reading and industrial automation.
Smart Metering
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation's MUC system is an innovative and tailor-made smart metering solution which meets both customer and compliance requirements. The MUC system makes remote data reading of home supply meters possible in numerous industries. The various consumption values for electricity, gas, water and heat are read locally and automatically transmitted to the headquarters by means of a standardised communication interface. GSM/GPRS, LAN and power line communication serve as the transmission path.
Remote meter reading
Dr. Neuhaus Telekommunikation's ZDUE series enables remote meter reading for all utilities including electricity, heat, gas and water meters. The modems have been used by major energy suppliers since 1993 and are available in four versions for analogue, GSM, GPRS or LAN connections.
Industrial automation
TAINY Connect - the transmission system for wireless and wirebound M2M communication based on IP networks.
TAINY Connect's product portfolio includes the TAINY modem, the software-based TAINY SwitchingCenter and the TAINY ModemServer. The latter are perfect for all areas of remote maintenance as well as for controlling and monitoring terminal devices and machines.
The TAINY xMOD product family was designed specifically for industrial settings: the devices are configured to be mounted on top hat rails and, thanks to their compact housings, can be installed in all conventional electrical cabinets while saving space in the process.
The TAINY HMOD-V2-IO for example unites an HSDPA radio modem, a VPN router and a firewall in a single device. A great number of security features, such as IPsec-based VPN functions and data encryption, make it possible to transmit highly sensitive data safely via a mobile communications network. Fields of use range from programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to self-service machines and terminal connections through to traffic control technology and remote maintenance.
The TAINY GMOD-S1 replaces conventional dedicated line or dial-up modems, thus facilitating IP-based M2M communication with serial applications which are not TCP/IP compatible themselves. It is suitable for use across many branches of industry and enables all manner of M2M communication, data transmission and remote maintenance.
Professional mobile radio (PMR)
Dr. Neuhaus's Sagemcom TGR product line provides GSM telephones for secure and reliable communication in an industrial environment. The Sagemcom TGR350S is a cellular radio solution for use as a personal emergency signal system during dangerous unaccompanied work.
